DISASTER RESPONSE HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES LOVE MOVEMENT / HUMANITARIAN SOCIAL ACTION CENTRAL TAPANULI – NORTH SUMATRA

Malang |WIT–The Hope Ministry Foundation in Malang, East Java, together with Gaharu Nusantara Bersinar (GNB), carried out a Disaster Response Humanitarian Activity through a Movement of Love/Humanitarian Social Action for communities affected by flash floods and landslides in the villages of Pandan, Hutabalang, and Muara Sibuntuon, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra.

This humanitarian activity was led and carried out directly by the Chairman of Gaharu Nusantara Bersinar and Chairman of the Hope Ministry Foundation (Hope Ministry Malang – East Java), Mr. Vernando Sihombing, who went directly to the disaster site to see the actual conditions of the community and ensure that the aid was distributed appropriately.

In carrying out this activity, Mr. Vernando Sihombing was accompanied by the Regional Secretary of GNB DPW North Sumatra, Mr. Jandri Sihite. Meanwhile, from the Hope Ministry Malang Foundation, Mr. Meidama Lawolo as General Secretary of YPRD/Hope Ministry, Mrs. Natasya as General Treasurer of YPRD/Hope Ministry, and Jefri Sinaga (a final year student at STT Salem Malang) were also present and actively involved in the service and assistance in the field.

Seeing firsthand the condition of the communities affected by flash floods and landslides in the Central Tapanuli region, Vernando Sihombing expressed his deep sorrow and concern. Many residents lost family members, possessions, homes, and livelihoods. Quite a few also experienced fear and psychological trauma, both adults and children, as a result of the sudden and devastating disaster.

As a tangible expression of care and love, Vernando Sihombing and the disaster response team from YPRD/Hope Ministry collaborated with a local clergyman, Praeses of the BNKP Resort 40 Hutabalang Church, Rev. Siice Sandroto, S.Th, to distribute basic food supplies and other necessities to the communities affected by the floods and landslides in Muara Sibuntuon Village. This assistance is expected to ease the burden of residents who are struggling to recover from the difficult conditions after the disaster.

In addition to logistical assistance, the YPRD/Hope Ministry Malang team also carried out Trauma Healing activities for children in the refugee tents set up by BNPB. Around ±200 children were served in this activity. The children looked very happy, entertained, and began to smile again through various activities such as playing, singing, and loving interactions.

The Trauma Healing service provided by Mrs. Natasya, Mr. Meidama Lawolo, and Mr. Jefri Sinaga was a very meaningful emotional support for children who were experiencing trauma and sadness. On this occasion, the team also distributed milk, bread, and healthy food to support the nutritional needs of the children in the refugee camp.

However, there are still many people in the Central Tapanuli and even South Tapanuli regions who have not received any assistance and are in dire need of help. Therefore, Vernando Sihombing, together with the GNB and YPRD/Hope Ministry disaster response team, invites all colleagues, friends, and the wider community to join together in becoming a channel of blessing and an extension of God’s hand for our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster.

Currently, the community is in urgent need of various forms of assistance, such as toiletries, mattresses, vitamins, basic food supplies, and other essential items. Any form of support and concern will be greatly appreciated and will help ease their suffering.

Seeing the still dire conditions, Vernando Sihombing, as Chairman of GNB and Yayasan Pengharapan Rumah Damai, emphasized that these humanitarian activities will continue indefinitely as a form of commitment to service and humanity.
